The term ‘Jurisprudence’ is derived from its Latin equivalent Jurisprudentia which according to the English Oxford Dictionary means knowledge of or skill in law. ‘Juris’ means ‘law’ and ‘prudentia’ means ‘science’ or a ‘systematic body of knowledge’.
